Summer scorcher continues with temps in the 30s today; inland areas set to be the hottest

1 NEWS reporter Laura James finds out.

Temperatures inland are soaring into the 30s again today as the warm weather continues throughout the country.

Blenheim is expected to have the top temperature of 33 degrees Celsius, but other areas of the country are not far behind.

Masterton, Te Kuitu, Taumaranui, Christchurch and Alexandra are forecast to reach 32C, among other cities peaking into the 30s.

The hottest places today are likely to be "anywhere inland away from the city and breezes", MetService Meteorologist Tui McInnes told 1 NEWS.

"Some of those places that are high [temperatures] are historically quite high," he explained.

Places inland, like Alexandra, are typically warmer during this time of year so it is not abnormal for those areas to hit in the 30s, he said.

Places like Whangārei, Tauranga, Auckland and Wellington have been having warmer overnights, typically in the 20s and high teens, which is an indicator of high humidity, Mr McInnes said.

Towards the end of the week, the weather is expected to drop back to more "normal" weather patterns. However, it will still be consistent with warm summery days, he said.
