GeoNet says a 'strong' magnitude 4.8 earthquake has rattled central New Zealand this evening.

Over 2300 people reported feeling it on the GeoNet website.
The quake struck at 9.42pm at a depth of 11km.
It was centred 15km east of Seddon.
Eleven minutes earlier a 4.5 magnitude quake hit near Paraparaumu.
