February 18, 2019

A stolen car driven by an 11-year-old has rolled after crashing into several parked cars in Dunedin last night, according to police.

Emergency services were called following reports of a multi-car crash on Kenmure Road, in Kenmure, at around 9.40pm, Senior Sergeant Craig Dinnissen confirmed to 1 NEWS.

The vehicle was unlawfully taken from the child's caregivers and appeared to be driving too fast with "obviously no skills whatsoever" when it crashed, he said.

The car, a late model Volkswagon Golf, crashed on the first bend - hitting two parked cars and flipping on its roof.

The boy then fled the scene and a police dog unit was unable to track him, authorities said.

He later turned up at a grandparent's address, according to police.

The boy has since been referred to Youth Aid.

No one was injured in the incident.
