Stingray attack on Wairarapa's east coast, man airlifted to Wellington Hospital

December 17, 2017

A swimmer has been reportedly stung by a stingray at Riversdale Beach, on the east coast of Wairarapa, this afternoon.

A man in his early 30s suffered a injury to his lower leg and was treated on the beach by paramedics dropped by a Westpac Rescue helicopter just after 1pm today.

The Westpac Rescue helicopter then flew the man to Wellignton Hospital in a moderate condition, Wellington Free Ambulance spokesperson confirmed to 1 NEWS.

Initial reports from the scene at Riversdale Beach were the man had been bitten by a shark but that is now thought to be incorrect.
