State Highway 1 reopened after serious crash blocked all lanes near Wellsford, Northland

State Highway 1 has been reopened after a a serious car crash near Wellsford in Northland blocked all lanes.

A Fire and Emergency spokesperson confirmed to 1 NEWS of a car crash involving two cars on a bridge on SH1 in Te Hana, just north of Wellsford.

Three fire engines were called to the scene at 11:30am. The Westpac Helicopter is on its way.

One person was trapped and is in a serious condition, another person is in a critical condition.

SH1 was closed between Mangawhai Rd and the Te Hana township.

Southbound traffic is being diverted through Mangawhai Rd and northbound traffic is being diverted through Matheson Rd and Waiteitei Rd.

The Serious Crash Unit has been notified.
