Watch as 400 South Auckland students - belt out spine-tingling rendition of Oscar-nominated song 'This Is Me'

February 12, 2018

More than 400 South Auckland students with the help of the choir master behind Disney's Moana have performed an inspiring rendition of the Oscar-nominated song 'This Is Me' - with just two hours to prepare.

The 400 strong choir are students from a summer programme called UniPrep which helps high school graduates prepare for their life after school whether it be in work or at university.

Every year choir master and judge of the The Naked Choir Igelese Ete trains the programme's students to sing and perform.

Performing in a choir is a way for the students "to get out of their comfort zone," Veronica Ng Lam Director of Strategic Projects and Initiatives at AUT told 1NEWS.

Ms Ng Lam, who has helped run the course since it began in 2015, says the choir rehearsed for two hours with Mr Ete before they recorded the video.

The video, posted to Facebook on Friday, has been watched more than 800,000 times and has been shared more than 15,000 times.

Ms Ng Lam says the students have been overwhelmed with the response to their cover of the song This Is Me from the move 'The Greatest Showman' starring Hugh Jackman.

"It's been really inspiring.

"They are really proud of themselves."
