Snow and severe weather in the South Island causes road closures

Breakfast weatherman Matty McLean has the latest weather update.

There are a number of road closrue around the country as snow and extreme weather causes disruptions.

Snow restrictions are in place for State Highway 73 from Springfield to Arthur's Pass. 

The road is closed to towing vehicles and chains are essential travelling through there. 

Motorists travelling on State Highway 6 between Ross and Haast are urged to take extra care with strong winds on the hill.  

Further road snowfall warnings have been issued for Desert Road, Lewis Pass, Lindis Pass and the Dunedin to Waitati Highway.
