Simon Barnett on extended leave from More FM after wife has 'massive stroke', diagnosed with lesions on brain

May 1, 2018

Beloved More FM host Simon Barnett has taken extended leave from his breakfast radio show after his wife Jodi was discovered to have lesions on the brain.

His co-host Gary McCormick informed listeners this morning of the reason for Barnett's absence this week, explaining his wife had a "massive fit or stroke" on Sunday morning.

"We have alluded in the last couple of days to the fact Simon wasn't well," McCormick began.

"That wasn't strictly the case but it wasn't our place to tell you the details until we knew the details and we had permission from the family to discuss this with you.

"What happened on Sunday morning Jodi, Simon's wife, appeared to have a massive fit or stroke, and of course this was very distressing for the entire family to say the least, it was horrendous."

Jodi went immediately into Christchurch Hospital and it is understood Barnett and his daughters have been a continual presence there since Sunday.

McCormick went on to explain the good news was that doctors have recently announced the two lesions on Jodi's brain were operable.

"The doctors are positive about her outlook. Obviously she'll be having a major operation, Jodi will, but she's a very stoic person, very brave."

It is hoped that Jodi will undergo her operation in the next 10 to 12 days.

The couple have been married for 25 years after meeting through friends almost 30 years ago.

They have four daughters together: Sammy, Sophie, Bella, and Lily.

Aside from his More FM show, Barnett is also the current Dancing with the Stars champion.
