Police say they have made "significant progress" in the case of Kevin "Kastro" Ratana, a Mongrel Mob member who was gunned down in front of his Whanganui home nearly three weeks ago.
But "we know there are people who have information and have not yet spoken to us", police said today in a statement today, urging witnesses to come forward "for the sake of Kevin's whānau.
"We believe those people are likely to have critical evidence relating to Kevin's death."
So far, eight men have been arrested as a result of the investigation, with charges including threatening to kill, unlawful possession of ammunition and participation in an organised crime group.
A Mongrel Mob tribute of red bandanas could be seen on Puriri Street, in the suburb of Castelcliff, as the 27-year-old's body was removed by police last month. Rival gang Black Power has strong connections to the area, a resident told 1 NEWS.
Days later, gang members crowded into a tangi for Mr Ratana, who was described by the gang's leader as "a successful young leader" who was "charismatic and had a huge following".
Police emphasised today that witneses statements will be treated "with the utmost confidentiality".
