State Highway 1 north of Wellington is closed following a serious crash.
The road north of Te Horo, Kapiti Coast is closed in both directions.
Police say emergency services were notified just after 5:50pm of the crash north of Te Waka Road.
A single vehicle has gone off the road and the occupant is trapped, and is reportedly in critical condition.
The road is closed while emergency services attend the scene and a helicopter lands to transport the injured person to hospital.
