Australian politician accuses Jacinda Ardern of 'copying' John Howard's gun laws

A senior Australian Liberal Party politician has taken aim at Jacinda Ardern’s gun crack down on guns saying she's only "copying what the Liberal Party did".

On Thursday Jacinda Ardern announced military style semi-automatic guns will soon be banned following the March 15 terrorist attack on two mosques in Christchurch that left 50 people dead.

Liberal Party Federal Vice-President Teena McQueen told Australia’s Q&A yesterday during a panel discussion: "The Liberal Party did that years ago with John Howard."

Fellow panelist and author Roxanne Gay replied, "Of course you did," causing an eruption of laughter in the studio.

Ms McQueen went on to say: "You seem to think that’s funny, John Howard did do that. Jacinda Ardern is copying exactly."

Ms McQueen also took aim at Jacinda Ardern’s leadership.

"Can I also remind you Jacinda Ardern is only there because she formed an alliance with Winston Peters I think everyone forgets that little fact."

Ms McQueen was also laughed at for saying that white supremacy was "not growing" in Australia.

Ms Gay told her she is, "living in a bubble".
