A second person has been arrested after a 92-year-old woman was assaulted in a home invasion in Northland last week.

Two women had approached the elderly woman's Kawakawa property to ask her for fuel when they assaulted her last Wednesday, according to police.

A 40-year-old woman has been charged with aggravated burglary and wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

She will appear in the Kaikohe District Court this afternoon.

A 24-year-old woman has already been charged with aggravated burglary and wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

She will also be appearing in the Kaikohe District Court.

No one else is being sought in relation to the incident, Mid North CIB Detective Senior Sergeant Rhys Johnston said.

"We know the community was appalled to hear the details of this incident and we are pleased to be able to hold those allegedly responsible to account," Mr Johnston said.

"We want to reassure the community that police take matters of this nature extremely seriously and we will investigate thoroughly."
