Seaside Christchurch suburb to finally get its own skate park

February 1, 2019

Five redzoned sections will be used for a skatepark and community green space.

The Government has granted Sumner the use of several Crown-owned properties to build a skate park and a community green space.

Until now the community has built and operated a temporary skate park as part of their community-led earthquake recovery.

The suburb's residents have been calling for a permanent skate park for more than three decades.

Minister of Greater Christchurch Regeneration Dr Megan Woods said “Sumner residents have long been calling for a permanent skate park and new green space and it’s great that we can now make that a reality."

The Crown properties are next to the former Marine Tavern site, which was selected as the preferred location for the new Sumner skate park by the Linwood-Central-Heathcote Community Board.
