School dropout pledges to be the greatest men's fashion designer New Zealand's ever seen

Jerome Taylor wants to be the greatest men's fashion designer in New Zealand, a lofty goal for someone who dropped out of school and took up work as a roofer.

He is already making waves in the world of fashion though, with his Not For You label hitting the catwalk as part of the New Generation Show at NZ Fashion Week.

Originally from Wainuiomata Jerome told Seven Sharp he "struggled at school" playing up and getting in trouble, before dropping out and becoming a roofer.

After realising roofing wasn't for him, Taylor took his love of art and began screen-printing his original designs onto t-shirts.

"Art for me was always my way to express myself," Taylor said.

His new found enthusiasm led to a return to study, gaining Diploma's in business and fashion.

The talented young designer is now looking at using his new skills to conquer the world of high fashion, one show at a time.
