Royal baby could be listening to Anika Moa's 'Songs for Bubbas' after PM gifted Angela Merkel a soft toy and art print

April 19, 2018

German Changellor Angela Merkel got a kiwi soft toy that resembled an airport tourist trinket.

The royal baby, due this month, could be listening to the songs of Kiwi musician and current Seven Sharp co-host Anika Moa before long.

Moa revealed on Seven Sharp last night that she package up a box of her "Songs for Bubbas" CDs for Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern to gift to Prince William and wife Kate Middleton during her current visit to London.

Ms Ardern had a sit down visit with Prince Charles overnight and overnight tonight NZT is scheduled to have a one-on-one with the Queen.

Anika Moa said that while she was filming for her TV show in Ms Ardern's office last week, prime ministerial staff asked what they could get for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's new baby.

"And I said 'just give them some Songs for Bubbas CDs'."

She said she hopes the PM's staff took the CDs.

"I sent a really big box, and I was like, 'send to the royal family'."

Moa said her gift box also included some baby's t-shirts with a Maori pattern, adding "what I want is for their baby to be speaking Te Reo Maori. That would be so cool."

Meanwhile, Moa and co-host Hilary Barry critiqued gifts the PM has given world leaders so far on her Eureopen tour.

She gave German Chancellor Angela Merkel and kiwi soft toy on behalf of all New Zealanders and the presenters questioned whether that was up to scratch.

"But we have good news from the PM's office. It wasn't the only gift we gave Angie. We also gave her a print by Dagmar Dyck. It's a limited edition called Homegrown, one of just 10," Barry pointed out.

The French President Emmanuel Macron got a pounamu mere (club) and his wife Brigitte, got a silk scarf, the hosts noted.
