Rock fall breaks motorcycle passenger's leg during Marlborough ride

A pillion passenger on a motorcycle has a bizarre excuse for an injury after getting struck by a falling rock.

The passenger escaped serious injury but suffered a broken leg after being hit by a falling rock on State Highway 1 near Weld Pass in Marlborough today.

Emergency services were notified of the incident just after midday.

Police said in a statement inquiries were ongoing but it appeared the rock had fallen from a hill above the road.
