Organisers of the West Coast A&P show have been forced to pull the plug on the event due to a slip on the main road.
The slip on State Highway 6 north of Franz Josef Glacier is estimated to be 400 metres long with debris several metres deep, and the NZ Transport Agency says the road is unlikely to be reopened until early next week.
The massive slip has closed the main road until Monday.
The show's president, Dave Nolan, says it has been running for 67 years and turns over about $10,000 each year for the community.
Mr Nolan says the next four weekends are already booked with other events so the A and P show could not be postponed.
Some horse events are being held for those who can make it.
