A motorbike rider has been taken to hospital after an incident at a speedway in Christchurch this afternoon.
St John said the incident took place around 3:30pm at Ruapuna Raceway.
Round one of the New Zealand Super Bike Championships are being held at the speedway, also known as Mike Pero Motorsport Park this weekend.
The rider will remain in Christchurch Hospital overnight for observation.
