Restored $10 million WWII Mosquito fighter bomber takes to the Auckland skies

January 23, 2019

The restoration has taken several years.

After five years of toil and dedication, a restored WWII fighter bomber is finally ready to take to the skies.

The wooden De Haviland Mosquito plane is the third to be turned out by Avspecs Restorations.

Texan oil billionaire Rod Lewis has financed the project, which cost $10 million.

He was at Auckland's Ardmore Airfield to watch his plane take flight.

"It's pretty incredible, beautiful restoration, it's worth the wait," Mr Lewis told Seven Sharp.
