A pod of orca have been re-floated after being stranded in Kaipara Harbour, Northland.
DOC says the orca became stranded at Kellys Bay, near Pouto, when they were chasing food around 2:30pm.
The whales were stranded in the middle of the harbour and only accessible by boat.
Members of the public in three boats helped keep the orca wet.

The marine mammals were successfully re-floated around 6pm.
