Remand prisoner who says she contracted scabies in approved Corrections house taken back into custody

A remand prisoner who says she contracted scabies and head lice while housed at an approved Corrections property in Auckland has been suddenly taken back into custody.

1 NEWS first reported on Chanelle Sandilands' story a fortnight ago, when the remand prisoner said the accommodation she had been placed in was so run down that it was unlivable.

Now, Ms Sandilands says Corrections has been unable to manage her and she faces a return to prison.

"I've complied with my bail for two months now. I've done everything right," she told 1 NEWS.

The 36-year-old has been shuffled from motels to other temporary housing and has been told by her doctor that she is suffering from stress and is still contagious.

"I'm being punished and I'm suffering for something I should never have even been put through. It's been a nightmare for me and it still is an ongoing nightmare for me," Ms Sandilands says.

Yesterday, a Napier judge refused to bail Ms Sandilands to her parent's Hastings home despite the house and her parents being deemed suitable.

Her father has terminal cancer and he worries it may be the family's last Christmas together.

Ms Sandilands will likely remain in custody until her trial on fraud charges in February.
