Queenstown flights cancelled and power outages hit as wintry storm hits lower South Island

Flights have been cancelled from Queenstown Airport, there are multiple areas without power and the ski fields are being blanketed with snow as the South Island is hit by a mid-winter storm in November.

A number of Air New Zealand flights have been cancelled, while one from Jetstar has been delayed. 

There was also a snow warning on Lindis Pass from Omarama to Tarras and on State Highway 94 from Te Anau to Milford.

The Crown Range is closed, having opened for a period earlier today.

There are multiple pockets of outages across Central Otago, although it is not clear just how many properties are affected.

Mt Hutt had 15cm of snow while Coronet Peak was also treated to a good dumping.

“Lifts would be running if we had our staff and our chairs reconnected but since this is meant to be NZ Summer our staff are enjoying themselves elsewhere. Sometime you have to roll with the punches!” Mt Hutt said on Facebook.
