Queen, fronted by Adam Lambert, announces three New Zealand stadium shows

April 9, 2019

Adam Lambert and his Queen crew reminisce about Freddy Mercury and say they feel they're playing better than ever.

UK rock legends Queen have announced three New Zealand shows next year as part of their Queen + Adam Lambert The Rhapsody world tour - including performances for the first time in Wellington and Dunedin.

Queen original band members Brian May and Roger Taylor are set to team up with long-time frontman Adam Lambert on lead vocals for the 2020 shows. Lambert replaces frontman Freddy Mercury, whose life and 1991 death were chronicled last year in hit biopic movie Bohemian Rhapsody.

"We have a brand-new visual spectacle that will reframe these iconic songs and we are excited to reveal the show to New Zealand fans!" Lambert said in a written statement announcing the tour.

May described the band's return to New Zealand as a "great opportunity".

Excitement as Queen joined by American Idol contestant Adam Lambert for their first tour of NZ in decades.

"Our last tour featured our most ambitious production ever and got us our best notices ever," the guitarist said. "So we decided to rip it apart and get even more ambitious! Watch out, New Zealand!"

The band will be performing in Wellington's Westpac Stadium on Wednesday, February 5; Auckland's Mt Smart Stadium on Friday, February 7; and Dunedin's Forsyth Barr Stadium on Monday, February 10.

Tickets go on sale at 10am on Wednesday, April 17.
