Public help with traffic control after Gisborne crash leaves person fighting for life

One person is in a critical condition after a car hit a tree in Gisborne this evening.

A Police spokesperson told 1 NEWS emergency services were called to Whangara Rd about 5.30pm.

Another person is in a serious condition and two others are in a moderate condition.

All four patients have been taken to Gisborne ED Hospital.

The spokesperson told 1 NEWS members of the public assisted with traffic control following the crash.

The Serious Crash Unit is investigating.
