A three-year-old has been reunited with her family after being in a car which was stolen from an Auckland supermarket last night.
The child was inside the car at a Mt Roskill supermarket at 7pm when the car was taken, allegedly by two teenagers.
Police staff and a police helicopter chased the car until it crashed just a few blocks from the supermarket.
The accused teens took off on foot through nearby properties until they were stopped and arrested by police.
The little girl was reunited with her family.
The family of the young girl have thanked passersby and those in the supermarket car park for helping in the moments following the carjacking.
Police say the incident was a "terrifying ordeal" for the family and that it could have been much worse if it wasn't for the help of the public in directing police.
Two teenagers aged 13 and 15 will appear in court today charged with kidnapping, unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, willful damage and assault with intent to rob.
