Protest against migrant exploitation at Auckland liquor after claims worker owed $80K in unpaid wages

October 12, 2017

The owner's brother has denied the accusations, however, saying the man is paid fairly for his work.

A protest against migrant worker exploitation took place outside an Auckland liquor store last night after reports a worker there has been exploited for years.

Manjinder Singh, 23, claims his employer allegedly forced him to work 62 hours a week, but he was only paid for 30.

Mr Singh says he’s owed $80,000 in unpaid wages and he’s suffering from anxiety and depression.

The brother of the shop owner denies the claims, and says the matter will go to court.

"He works only 30 hours and we paid him 30 hours every week, up to date plus his IRD, everything."
