Prince William attends Auckland Anzac Day service as New Zealand honours those who gave their lives in war

Prince William was among about 10,000 people who attended the Auckland's Civic Anzac Day service today.

The Duke of Cambridge was welcomed alongside Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, Auckland Mayor Phil Goff and New Zealand Defence Force and RSA representatives.

He lay a wreath to pay his respects to the New Zealanders who have given their lives fighting in war.

    Auckland services have been reduced to 26 from more than 90 last year for safety concerns after the Christchurch terrorist attacks on March 15.

    There has been a strong police presence at services throughout the country today.

    Later today, Prince William will travel to Christchurch where he'll meet survivors of the Christchurch terrorist attack.
