Police reveal photo of unexploded, metre-long naval shell found during demolition work

An unexploded, naval, high explosive shell approx one metre long was found by contractors doing demolition work at an address in Te Puke yesterday.

1 NEWS was told the shell was unearthed by a man on a digger.

Police say they were called to the vacant property around 4.15pm yesterday and upon arrival evacuated four neighbouring properties.

The NZ Defence Force bomb squad has taken the shell for destruction.
