Police officer knocked unconscious in South Auckland

The female officer was taken to hospital with a head and arm injury after she was knocked unconscious.

A police officer was knocked unconscious as officers were dealing with disorderly behaviour in South Auckland last night.

A police spokesperson told 1 NEWS 11 arrests were made in Otahuhu last night, including 10 for disorderly behaviour and one for possession of a deadly weapon.

The female officer was transported to hospital with injuries to her arm and head after she was knocked unconscious by a male suspect from behind.

The two sets of fans celebrated in style after reaching the tournament semi-finals.

Inspector Rod Honan says officers wish to speak to anyone who has information which may help with enquiries into the incident.

Multiple witnesses were at the scene when the incident took place, he says.

"Someone knows exactly who committed this cowardly act and we urge the offender, or anyone with information, to come forward.

"Police staff work tirelessly every day to keep our community safe and violent acts like this against our officers are unacceptable," Inspector Honan said.

The officer has since been discharged from hospital and is recuperating at home.
