Police launch murder investigation after death of man in central Auckland

A large number of police officers gathered outside an address on Calgary Street in Sandringham, Auckland.

Police have launched a homicide investigation following the death of man in the central Auckland suburb of Sandringham.

The body of a man in his 50s was located at a property on Calgary Street around 7am yesterday.

A scene examination has continued today and police remain at the property.

A post-mortem examination will also take place today.

The formal identification of the deceased is being completed and police were unable to release the name of the victim.

Detective Inspector Aaron Pascoe of Auckland City Police said police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.

“We are following lines of enquiries and working hard to identify anyone responsible to ensure they are held to account,” Mr Pascoe said.

“We want to hear from anyone who has any information at all which may assist our investigation.

Mr Pascoe was particularly interested to hear from anyone who witnessed suspicious activity on Calgary Street before 7am yesterday.
