Police investigating after shots reportedly fired at police car in Christchurch

February 23, 2019

Police are making enquiries after shots appeared to have been fired at a police car in Christchurch early this morning.

The incident occurred after police signalled for a car to stop on Anzac Drive, in Wainoni, over the manner of driving just before 1am, Canterbury Metro Commander Lane Todd said.

The vehicle failed to stop, and officers saw what they believed to be shots fired through a window of the car, towards the police car, he said.

Police immediately abandoned the pursuit.

No one was injured in the incident, but police are taking the incident extremely seriously, Mr Todd said.

Enquiries to help locate the person or persons responsible are ongoing today, including a strong police presence in the Anzac Drive area.

Anyone with information which may help police with their enquiries has been advised to contact Christchurch police on (03) 363 7400, or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 800 511.
