Armed police have cordoned off a street in Manurewa, less than 36 hours after a shooting 6km away in Ōtara.

Police are investigating after one person was badly injured after being shot in South Auckland overnight.

Armed police have cordoned off Gibbs Road, in Manurewa, after emergency services were alerted to the incident at 3.45am, a police spokesperson told 1 NEWS.

The victim is in a critical but stable condition in hospital.

Police inquiries are ongoing and police are canvassing the area today.

"While we understand incidents like this can cause concern in the community we can assure you that this matter is being investigated thoroughly," Detective Inspector Tofilau Fa’a Va’aelua said.
