Police are stepping up their investigation into the death of a Tribesmen Motorcycle gang associate and prospect after he was badly assaulted at the gang's headquarters in South Auckland.

Clayton Ratima, 24,  was admitted to Middlemore Hospital on Sunday February 21 with injuries consistent with having been severely assaulted.

He died three days later.

Detective Senior Sergeant Albie Alexander says detectives have information that Mr Ratima was assaulted at the Tribesmen headquarters in Berrit Place, Otara, during the early hours of February 21.

The Tribesmen headquarters has now been vacated by the gang, seemingly after this incident occurred, Mr Alexander said.

"Significant progress has been made in the investigation to date, with a number of the gang’s members and associates giving police invaluable information," he said.

"However, we still believe there is further information being actively suppressed by the gang.

“We know that there are people within the Tribesmen gang who know what happened on that day and police are as determined today as they were seven months ago to resolve this investigation and seek some resolution for Mr Ratima’s family and friends.”
