Police hunting for man who threatened Upper Hutt pharmacy staff with large knife

October 9, 2018

Police are investigating an aggravated robbery that took place in Upper Hutt on Sunday evening.

Detective Senior Sergeant Tim Leitch says a man entered the Queen Street Pharmacy at 7:10pm from the store's Andrews Lane entrance and proceeded to confront employees with a large knife.

"Fortunately nobody was injured in the robbery but the pharmacy employees were understandably very frightened and shaken by the incident."

The man threatened the two employees and demanded prescription drugs which he then took back out on to Andrews Lane as he ran from the scene - he was last seen headed towards King Street.

Detective Senior Sergeant Leitch described the offender as "as having olive skin and was around 5’8 – 5’11".

"He was wearing a red jacket, dark pants, sneakers and black ski gloves. He was also wearing a dark beanie, sunglasses and a white scarf across his face, and carrying a large kitchen-style knife with a blade approximately 25 cm long."

Detective Senior Sergeant Leitch says Police are extremely concerned about the behaviour of the offender and want to hear from anyone that can help identify and locate him.

"If you think you may have seen this man in the Upper Hutt area around the time of the robbery, or you saw anything suspicious in the Queen Street/King Street area, please call Lower Hutt Police on 04 560 2600 as soon as possible."
