Police are conducting a hunt for a 23-year-old man over a violent robbery of an 80-year-old woman’s handbag in Auckland yesterday.

The 80-year-old victim fell to the ground and hit her head in the struggle after a man approached her and took her handbag at approximately 3.45pm in the New World carpark on Clonbern Road in Remuera.

The offender then jumped into a car nearby and was driven away.

A 25-year-old woman alleged to have been the driver was later arrested after a police helicopter identified the vehicle believed to be involved at an address in Remuera.

The victim sustained head injuries and was taken to Auckland Hospital where she is in a stable condition.

Detective Senior Sergeant Lloyd Schmid says police are looking for Jaedon Dawson, 23, over the incident.

Dawson has a large build and is 178cm tall with a number of tattoos including the words “Respect Maori Blood” on his chest.

“It is through sheer luck that the victim is not more seriously injured, but she and her family are understandably very shaken by what has occurred,” Detective Senior Sergeant Schmid said.
