Police discover 3-year-old boy's body in Southland pond

Attempts to revive the child were unsuccessful.

A child's body has been found in a pond in Southland.

Gore police were alerted to a missing child about 9.30 last night, and police and LandSAR commenced a land search in the area.

The 3-year-old boy was discovered unresponsive at about 11.15pm in a pond, police said in a statement.

Despite the best efforts of the search team, the child was unable to be resuscitated.

Police thanked volunteers and neighbours who assisted in the search.

Police will be making inquiries today on behalf of the Coroner.
