Police delay examination of road where three killed in horrifying Southland crash

Police have postponed a closure of SH6 in Southland, the scene of a horrific crash that claimed three lives and saw two young children pulled from the wreckage alive .

Two young children survived a head-on crash on Sunday night near the Dipton-Winton Highway.

Their parents and one other were killed on Sunday evening. 

Police had planned to do a full scene examination to determine the cause, but now say they will do it later in the week.

Nine people died on the roads over the weekend, bringing the road toll up to 41 people from this time last year.
