A search and rescue mission is underway in Tauranga to find a missing fisherman after he failed to return from a trip in his homemade boat yesterday.
The 60-year old left around 7am yesterday morning in a three metre long aluminium boat and was expected back around midday but failed to return.
Police say the man’s brother had spoken to multiple eye witnesses who reported seeing a boat anchored to a buoy out at sea that fits the description of the one used by the missing man.
Police would like to talk to anyone who may have seen him or his boat.
"The Government has to balance pay demands across the public sector. We have gone as far as we can in terms of extra Government money," Dr Clark said this afternoon.
