Police caught on camera playing table tennis during West Auckland raid

December 13, 2018

Two police officers were filmed playing table tennis during a raid in West Auckland, but police say the incident took place during "down time".

Footage was provided to the NZ Herald showing the two officers inside a commercial property in Henderson which was the subject of an armed raid yesterday.

The property owner told NZ Herald he was upset his equipment had been used, saying in the video "New Zealand, this what we pay for".

"This is what cops do, they play games. New Zealand police, better work stories, they got them covered," the man, who was not identified, said.

The search warrant was executed about 5am yesterday and a 29-year-old male was arrested on firearms and other charges.

Firearms and ammunition were seized at the address including a rifle and a pump action shotgun.

Waitemata West area commander Inspector Zane Hooper said police were aware of the video and said it would be investigated during a debrief on the raid.

"Once the search area and people present had been contained at the address, some of the additional Police staff were required to remain at the site to assist with later duties," Mr Hooper said.

"Police are aware of the video footage on social media which shows some of these Police staff, in this down time, playing table tennis at the premises."
