Cordons are in place at the Sandringham Road property.

Police around the country will continue to carry firearms following the Christchurch mosque attacks.

Police Commissioner Mike Bush has directed all officers nationwide to carry guns while on duty until the risk to the community is reduced.

“Due to the national threat level remaining high, the Commissioner has directed our staff to have immediate access to firearms,” a statement released today said.

“In the coming weeks we will be highly visible in all districts across the country. As people return to their routines – to their schools, work, and to their places of worship and recreation, we will be with them. If you notice more of us around - don’t be alarmed, it is for the community’s safety.”

Police did not elaborate on how long the timeframe would be.
