The Porirua Adventure Park will be built on the hills and surrounding area of Porirua's Rangituhi-Colonial Knob with visitors able to access its trails for free.

Canadian company Select Contracts, the company behind the Christchurch Adventure Park, will construct the park, and unveiled its plans alongside Porirua Mayor Mike Tana on Thursday.

The company's managing director Chris Sutton says it will be a world-class destination, and Mr Tana hopes 80,000 Kiwis and overseas tourists will visit within five years, generating an estimated $40m for the Wellington economy.

It's hoped the project will grow employment in Porirua, and attract 80,000 people within five years.
