Pin found in punnet of strawberries in Tauranga Pak'nSave

December 7, 2018

A pin has been found in a punnet of strawberries by a customer at a Pak'nSave supermarket in Tauranga.

Police confirmed to 1 NEWS they received a report of the object being found in the strawberry on Thursday morning.

They say the matter has been referred to the Ministry of Primary Industries.

A Foodstuffs NZ spokesperson told 1 NEWS the remaining product has since been removed from the store's shelves and they are liaising with the authorities directly regarding the incident.

"Customer safety is our number one priority and we encourage all customers to contact stores directly should they ever encounter a tampering issue with a product."

This appears to be the third instance in which a foreign object has been found in the fruit in New Zealand.

Needles were found in one punnet at an Auckland supermarket in September and in another strawberry at a South Canterbury supermarket last month.
