Photos: New images emerge of derailed Britomart train as commuter calls it an 'absolute miracle' no-one was hurt

More than 30 people were on board when the train derailed this morning.

Auckland commuter Kirstin Anne Elphick captured the moment after the train she was riding on derailed.

Ms Elphick told 1 NEWS the train was heading into Britomart, when all of a sudden "the brakes slammed".

The AUT student said there was a "huge screeching noise", and the train shook.

"Everyone was just really, really freaked out, wondering what was going on."

"I was just thinking, 'what on Earth is happening'. It's not something I've ever experienced before."

She said everyone checked on each other to ensure there were no injuries, and they tried to lighten the mood as they waited after the incident.

"We were looking out of the windows and we could see just how close the train was to the tunnel."

"No one's stuff got thrown around luckily... luckily no one was hurt. I felt that was an absolute miracle based on how far the train stopped [from the side of the tunnel]."

She said she was "really freaked out but really, really glad that I didn't get hurt, that no one got hurt."

"I'm just so relieved no one got physically injured."
