A fire service spokeswoman said oil was blocking a drain system and that Auckland Council had been called to help clean the spillage.
She said ambulance staff have also been called to attend, however there have not been any reported injuries.
NZTA says the road is closed for west-bound traffic, between Hobill Ave and Plunkett Ave. Diversions are in place.
The spokeswoman said the fire service got a call from police to attend just after 7am today.
