Person taken to hospital with smoke inhalation after house fire in Dunedin

One person is in Dunedin Hospital with smoke inhalation after a house fire in the city.

Fire crews were called to the scene on Stoutgate just before 6am.

Four crews were in attendance and the fire was extinguished about 6.30am.

Fire and Emergency NZ are unsure whether there were more people in the house at the time, but no other injuries have been reported.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
