Person dies after boat overturns on Otago's Clutha River

One person has died after a boat overturned in Otago's Clutha River last night.

Police were called following a report of a boat having overturned in the water near Beaumont at around 8.10pm, a police spokesperson told 1 NEWS.

One person was pulled from the water but died at the scene.

The death has been referred to the Coroner.
