Person dead after car hits power pole in Amberley

One person has died after a the car they were driving hit a power pole at Amberley, north of Christchurch today.

Police say the crash occurred on Lawcocks Road at around 2.25pm and the driver - the sole occupant of the vehicle- died at the scene.

The road remains blocked and an investigation into the cause of the crash is underway.
