Pedestrian hit by bus in central Wellington is critically injured

Police gather evidence after the crash at the intersection of Manners and Willis Streets.

A male pedestrian is in a critical condition after being hit by a bus in central Wellington this afternoon.

The crash happened shortly after 2.20pm at the intersection of Manners Street and Willis Street. 

A Capital and Coast District Health Board spokesperson told 1 NEWS the patient is in a critical condition in intensive care. 

Manners Street has reopened after being closed between Willis and Victoria Streets after the crash. 

1 NEWS footage from the scene shows the front windscreen of the bus shattered on the door side, and police taking photos of the bus as they gather evidence about the crash.
