A man has died in a paraglider crash on the side of Mt Maunganui today

Police confirmed the body of the 48-year-old was retrieved around 8.30pm.

The pilot crashed about 300m below the summit.

Police say the paraglider and pilot were located in dense bush.

Earlier this year, Josh Tingey, 28, died in a paraglider crash after slamming into the mountain.
