Two men have been charged with assaulting a man who died on Matakana Island in the Bay of Plenty on New Year's Day.
The pair, aged 23 and 59, will appear in Tauranga District Court on Thursday, separately charged with common assault, police said this afternoon.
Freedom Taikato, 22, died on Matakana Island on January 1.
Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Rawlinson says the investigation into Mr Taikato's death is continuing, based in Tauranga and periodically on Matakana Island.
